How to Cancel YouTube Premium in 2026

How to Cancel YouTube Premium (2026) – Step-by-Step

To cancel YouTube Premium billed directly through YouTube, open your paid memberships, choose Manage membership, select Deactivate, then Continue to cancel and confirm. If Apple or Google Play bills you, cancel there instead. Benefits normally continue until the end of the billing period.

Before you start

Sign in to the Google account used for the membership. Check whether YouTube, Apple or Google Play bills you, because Apple and Google Play subscriptions must be managed through those stores.

Steps to cancel

Billed directly by YouTube (computer)

  1. Open YouTube paid memberships and sign in.
  2. Select Manage membership.
  3. Choose Deactivate, then select Continue to cancel.
  4. Choose a reason if prompted, select Yes, cancel, and check the membership status to confirm.

Billed directly by YouTube (YouTube app on iPhone, iPad or Android)

  1. Open the YouTube app and tap your profile picture.
  2. Tap Paid memberships, then tap the membership you want to end.
  3. Tap Continue to cancel.
  4. Choose a reason and tap Next, then tap Yes, cancel.

If you joined from the YouTube iOS app, Apple handles the billing, so use the Apple steps below.

Billed through Google Play (Android)

  1. Open Subscriptions in Google Play, signed in to the account that pays for the membership.
  2. Select YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium.
  3. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.

Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription.

Billed through Apple (iPhone or iPad)

  1. Open Settings and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions and select YouTube Premium.
  3. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

If there is no cancel button, the subscription has already been cancelled. You can’t cancel a family member’s subscription, and a membership billed by your mobile operator has to be cancelled through the operator.

Things to watch

  • Retention offer: YouTube’s cancellation flow may offer options such as pausing where eligible. Not every account will see them.
  • When it takes effect: paid benefits continue until the end of the billing period, and you won’t be charged again unless you re-subscribe.
  • Refunds: cancelling does not automatically refund the current period. Refund rules depend on how you were billed and on the applicable policies.
  • Other billing providers: Apple-billed subscriptions are cancelled through Apple, and Google Play-billed ones through Google Play. Check carrier or retailer billing with that provider.
  • Free-trial deadline: check your membership page for the trial end date and terms, and cancel before it to avoid a charge.
  • Duplicate memberships: a second account, or a membership billed through another platform, can keep charging you after you cancel one.

What to do instead

If you want to lower the cost rather than stop the membership, review any annual or family plan options YouTube offers before you cancel. Eligibility, plans and prices vary by account and country, so compare only what is available to you.

Expirra can also help you find savings on your subscriptions, and shared pools let you split the cost of a plan with others where the service allows sharing. See your savings options in Expirra.

Regional and billing differences

This guide is a general starting point. Plan names, billing routes, refund rights and on-screen labels can differ by country and account. If a third party such as Apple, Google Play, a mobile operator or a retailer bills your subscription, use that provider’s official cancellation flow.
